2024 Christmas Picnic at the hall

The weather was perfect and the picnic very well attended. We were fortunate this year to have our party catered for, thanks to the Murrindindi Shire Council. We were able to supply nibbles, a spit roast and salads.
Murrindindi Shire council is pleased to acknowledge that this event has been jointly funded by the Victorian Government and the Commonwealth Government under
Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
As usual Father Christmas made an appearance on the fire truck to the delight of all the children.

Acheron Hall Winter Dinner - 1970s theme

This year we all climbed aboard the karma bus and
travelled back to the 70s.

There were bright colours, flares, bold patterns, lurex, sheep skin, fur, leather, denim, paisley, big hair and lots of makeup. Wardrobes' farthest darkest corners, were raided and some of the garments still fit, and failing that, a trip to the op-shop or the internet was made for the outfits.
Gluhwein was served to all, on entering the hall and the food from the Grant Street Grocer was great as usual. The old timber of the hall reverberated to the sounds of 'Crocodile Rock', 'Dancing Queen' and the like - music provided by Steve Paix and there was much grooving, jiving,
good vibrations and twisting the night away.
I think it's safe to say that it was a great night.
The only problem is, 'how are we going to match it next year?'

Alexandra Library Presentation discussing the writing and designing of the book
Acheron: a History of the District
.
Tuesday 18th March, there was a talk given in the Alexandra Library by the major authors,
Elaine Furniss and Andrea Turner and the designer of the book, Beth Thorp.
The talk took the form a powerpoint presentation showing images of the research sources and with many interesting tales of information gathering by the authors, including all sorts of coincidental meetings with people who unexpectedly had valuable information to add to the story.
The afternoon was well attended by over 40 Acheron and Alexandra locals.
The book will be launched at the Hall's Centenary Celebrations on the 15th June 2014.
