2025 Christmas Picnic at the hall

You can be forgiven for thinking that it's always Christmas at Acheron,
with our Christmas themed Winter Dinner in August
and our usual Christmas Picnic in December.
Rain and cold weather were forcast for the picnic, but it turned out to be a perfect evening.
Father Christmas made his usual visit to the children, arriving on the Acheron fire truck,
and so everyone was happy.

Acheron Hall Winter Dinner 2025 - Christmas theme

Our Christmas themed Winter Dinner was a fun night with a delicious dinner by the Grant Street Grocer. Lots of people got into the swing of the evening by dressing up and joining in the Carol singing. There was also an hilarious, energetic, fundraising auction, of donated local goods and services. The feature item was this 8.2kg pumpkin grown by John Thorp and selling for $300.
The Hall was beautifully decorated by the Committee and added to the festive mood.

Alexandra Library Presentation discussing the writing and designing of the book
Acheron: a History of the District
.
Tuesday 18th March, there was a talk given in the Alexandra Library by the major authors,
Elaine Furniss and Andrea Turner and the designer of the book, Beth Thorp.
The talk took the form a powerpoint presentation showing images of the research sources and with many interesting tales of information gathering by the authors, including all sorts of coincidental meetings with people who unexpectedly had valuable information to add to the story.
The afternoon was well attended by over 40 Acheron and Alexandra locals.
The book will be launched at the Hall's Centenary Celebrations on the 15th June 2014.
