2023 Christmas Picnic at the hall

This year the weather was not so kind to us, it was cold and a little drizzley,
so our picnic was held inside the hall.
Father Christmas arrived on the Acheron fire truck, to the delight of the children.

Acheron is a very small community but the evening was very well attended,
old and new neighbours alike got a real buzz from getting together
and sharing food, drinks and chat.
The hall proved yet again what a versatile and great venue it is for all ages and events.

Acheron Hall Winter Dinner 2023 - Snow theme

Once again the Acheron Hall Winter Dinner on Saturday August 12th, was a great deal of fun.
The snow theme made it very easy for everyone to dressup warmly. We were greeted on entry, with a teacup of warm gluhwein, after which, the Grant Street Grocer served delicious canapés. After much chatting and hilarity, we all sat down to dinner.

It so happened that during dinner the Matildas were playing the last stages of their football match against France, and as various members of the group were watching the game on their phones, a microphone was produced and the final penalty corners were broadcast to the room, so everyone could be involved. When Australia won, there was much cheering. This was followed by the auction. Autioneers were local residents Tim Buckley and John Thorp. The items were all donated by local residents and businesses, and we thank them and all the buyers for their generosity. This is valuable fund raising for maintaining the hall. After this was dessert - all so good.
Meanwhile talented local musician Steve Paix entertained us with his piano, saxaphone and singing. There was even some dancing and singing along to the music, as shown in some of the photos below. And the hall looked fabulous, thanks to our wonderful committee.
The Acheron Mechancis Institute Committee appreciates the help received from the Murrundindi Council, via the Flood Recovery Initiative.

Alexandra Library Presentation discussing the writing and designing of the book
Acheron: a History of the District
.
Tuesday 18th March, there was a talk given in the Alexandra Library by the major authors,
Elaine Furniss and Andrea Turner and the designer of the book, Beth Thorp.
The talk took the form a powerpoint presentation showing images of the research sources and with many interesting tales of information gathering by the authors, including all sorts of coincidental meetings with people who unexpectedly had valuable information to add to the story.
The afternoon was well attended by over 40 Acheron and Alexandra locals.
The book will be launched at the Hall's Centenary Celebrations on the 15th June 2014.
